PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a touch area, which becomes invalid in operation, may be generated on a touch pad when an aspect ratio of the touch pad is not matched with that of a display screen, in remotely operating a display apparatus while using the touch pad on a remote control unit.

SOLUTION: The invention firstly relates to a display system characterized in that a touch pad of a remote controller has the same aspect ratio as that of a display screen. The invention secondly relates to a remote control unit having a function for receiving aspect ratio information of the display screen and utilizing the aspect ratio information to set an inoperable area on the touch pad. The invention thirdly relates to a remote control unit having a function for receiving the aspect ratio information of the display screen and utilizing the aspect ratio information and a mapping function to correct information on coordinates touched by a user. The invention fourthly relates to a display apparatus for performing mapping conversion processing similarly to the third.
