<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handrail belt of an escalator capable of displaying the moving direction of the handrail belt in an easily distinguishable manner on a surface of the handrail belt, and preventing any falling accident or the like, and suitable for keeping the appearance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A plurality of short direction display mark bodies 6A which are different in tone from the handrail belt 5, provided on a surface part of the handrail belt 5, and colored to display the moving direction of the handrail belt 5 are affixed to the surface of the handrail belt 5, and a coating layer 6 formed of the coating of a transparent aqueous resin agent is provided on surface parts of the direction display mark bodies 6A and the surface part of the handrail belt 5.
