<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk playback device capable of improving reading performance, during high double-speed playback. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The disk playback device is provided with: an optical pickup for reading information recorded in a disk medium; a misdetection part for detecting jitters and a read error of the disk medium, based on the read information; a drive part for rotating and controlling the disk medium in each of a normal playback mode and a high double-speed playback mode; and a control unit for first controlling, when playback is performed in the high double-speed playback mode, the driving part to rotate the disk medium at a preset highest rotational speed, reducing the rotational speed of the disk medium when the error detection part detects read error, or each time detected jitters exceed a predetermined amount, and performing control to gradually reduce the rotational speed of the disk medium to be within a permitted range.
