<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet film forming technique capable of controlling the quantity of the ink to be discharged with high reproducibility and in a short period of time. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the ink applying method, a film thickness evaluating member is arranged in a film thickness evaluating area to evaluate the film thickness on a material to be coated (steps S1, S4, S7), the ink is discharged from each of a plurality of the nozzles of an inkjet head to apply and dry the ink on a film thickness evaluating member (steps S2, S5, S8), the thickness of an optical film of the ink corresponding to each of the plurality of the nozzles on the film thickness evaluating member is measured and stored (steps S3, S6, S9) and the quantities of the ink to be discharged from the plurality of the nozzles of the ink jet head respectively are controlled on the basis of the measured thickness of the optical film (steps S10, S11).
