摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, in which a substrate is made thin and enhanced in strength. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Provided is the method of manufacturing the liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a first substrate 10 and a second substrate 20. A first base material substrate 1 including a plurality of first substrates 10 and a second base material substrate 2 including a plurality of second substrates 20 are stuck together. Surfaces of the first base material substrate 1 and second base material substrate 2, which are stuck together, are subjected to thinning processing. A protective film 15 having compressive stress such that the product of thin-film stress and film thickness is equal to or greater than 50 (Pa m) is formed on etching processing surfaces of the first base material substrate 1 and second base material substrate 2. The first base material substrate 1 and second base material substrate 2 where protective films 15 are formed are scribed to be parted into individual liquid crystal panels each having a sticking structure of the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 20.
