<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator in which a cooling device can be installed without increasing a spacing between a car and a ceiling of a hoistway, and a working space can be ensured even when a working stand is installed on the car. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The elevator comprises a car 1, an upper beam 2 integrated with the car 1, and a cooling device 10 in which a top part thereof is arranged on the car 1 so as to be at the level equal to or lower than a top face of the upper beam 2. A safety fence 6 for working is provided on the upper beam 2, and a fitting stay 3 arranged so that the top part thereof is at the level equal to or lower than the top face of the upper beam 2 is fixed to the upper beam 2.
