<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change the height of a spindle motor for rotating an optical disk depending on a disk type. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The spindle motor of an optical disk device includes a rotating part including a turntable on which an optical disk is placed, a rotary shaft disposed around the rotational center of the rotating part, a bearing for supporting the rotary shaft, a moving means for moving the rotating part in a rotational plane right angle direction, and a regulating member for regulating a range where the rotating part is moved in the rotational plane right angle direction. The rotational plane right angle moving means makes variable the turntable height of the rotating part with respect to a spindle motor fixed part by using magnetic force of a magnet and a coil disposed in the rotating part and the fixed part of the spindle motor respectively.
