<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively avoid occurrence of pitch short-circuit while suppressing rush current flowing in a filament lamp. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The light source device for an endoscope for supplying a connected endoscope with illumination light for illuminating an observation object includes: a filament lamp for emitting the illumination light; a light emission control unit for controlling light emitted from the filament lamp; and a rush current suppressing means for suppressing a peak value of the rush current flowing in the filament lamp within a prescribed range defined to be 1.3 to 2 times as large as rated current of the filament lamp.
