<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of adjusting a discharge amount of developer, and also, controlling a developer discharging operation based on a reference value set based on a predetermined factor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an exposure section for forming an electrostatic latent image on an image carrier with irradiation of light equivalent to the number of printing dots in accordance with image data; a developing section for forming a developer image by sticking the developer carried on a developer carrier to the electrostatic latent image; a number-of-dots counting section for counting the number of printing dots; and a developer discharge control means for, when the number of printing dots counted by the number-of-dots counting section is less than the reference value set based on the predetermined factor with reference to the previously set prescribed rotating speed of the image carrier, developing the image on the image carrier with the developer and efficiently discharging the developer.
