摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical reproducing method and an optical reproducing apparatus by which two reproduced images corresponding to a positive image and a negative image can be obtained simultaneously from recorded one fourier transform hologram by reproducing operation of one time. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The high order component of diffraction light diffracted from a hologram recorded in an optical recording medium can be separated into an S polarization component (S<SB>H</SB>) vibrating in a direction vertical to the progress direction of light (optical axis direction) and a P polarization component (P<SB>H</SB>) vibrating in a direction horizontal to the optical axis. In the same way, a given DC component can be separated into an S polarization component (S<SB>DC</SB>) and a P polarization component (P<SB>DC</SB>). The S polarization component (S<SB>H</SB>) of the high order component of the diffracted light and S polarization component (S<SB>DC</SB>) of the DC component have the same phase, and both are combined and the positive image is reproduced as a first reproduced image. The P polarization component (P<SB>H</SB>) of the high order component of the diffracted light and P polarization component (P<SB>DC</SB>) of the DC component have the opposite phase to each other, and both are combined and the negative image is reproduced as a second reproduced image.
