<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion wall which can obtain sufficient rigidity, and can absorb a shock during earthquakes by being expanded and contracted without impairing appearance even if a joint section between right and left building frames is large. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This expansion wall comprises: a pair of end walls which are provided in such a manner as to protrude in the direction of the other building frame in the right and left building frames provided via the joint, respectively; a pair of tubular movable walls which the pair of end walls enter slidably, respectively, in which tips of the pair of end walls are positioned in an almost central portion, and the outside ends of which are positioned in the almost central portion of the pair of end walls; a tubular central wall which the pair of tubular movable walls enter slidably, the outside end of which is positioned in the almost central portion of the pair of tubular movable walls, and which is about twice as long as the pair of tubular movable walls; and a wall expansion/contraction device both the ends of which are mounted on the pair of end walls, and which absorbs shocks by making the central wall positioned in the central portion of the joint section and sliding the pair of tubular movable walls, when the earthquakes cause the shocks so as to widen or narrow the joint.
