One end of a flexible hose 1 is attached to a nipple 2 by one or more radially compressible rings 6, 7, which press an annular portion or portions of the hose, slid on to the nipple, into a circumferential groove or grooves 4, 5 in the outer surface of the nipple under the influence of a sleeve 8 slidable axially over the nipple, ring or rings, and hose. Nipple 2 may carry at its end opposite the hose an adaptor 3 for fixing to a water tap. The rings may be of the form of split rings having overlapping ends formed by an inclined split or consist of a plurality of turns of wire with axially overlapping ends. The rings may also have one or more edges bevelled. The sleeve may be bevelled at one end, as in Fig. 1, to assist sliding, be internally threaded so as to screw on to the nipple, or have internal serrations as in Fig. 8. |
