SOLUTION: This thermal head A includes a substrate 10 forming a heating element 20 having a plurality of heating parts 21, a driving IC 30 for selectively heating the plurality of heating parts 21, and a temperature sensor 51 for measuring the temperature of the substrate 10. The thermal head A records an image on a recording material by selectively heating the plurality of heating parts 21, and is characterized in that a control means 52 is incorporated for controlling the driving IC 30 so as to stop heating of the heating element 20 when a measuring result by the temperature sensor 51 exceeds a predetermined value.
