<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize more effective defrosting by using a heated brush and mechanically combining scraping action and a heat melting effect by the brush in a defroster for a heat exchanger. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The defroster removing frost attached to surfaces of fins 2 of the heat source side heat exchanger 1 by a defrosting means using the brush 4 includes a brush heating means 6 for heating the brush, and it is composed to scrape of the frost attached to the fin surfaces by brush hair heated by the brush heating means. In such composition, since adhesion of the frost with respect to the fin surfaces is weakened on reception of the melting effect due to heat from a brush side even if the frost is like ice with strong adhesion to the fin surfaces, the scraping action of the brush is promoted, frost formation is removed more easily in comparison with, for example, defrosting by only brushing action, and a high defrosting effect is obtained.
