<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field communication apparatus capable of reducing burden of operations for setting and management of information for discriminating its own apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A transmitting means 11 transmits an inquiry request to a network to which the field communication apparatus itself is connected. A receiving means 12 receives a response to the inquiry request transmitted from the transmitting means 11. A counting means 13 counts the number of responses received by the receiving means 12. A discriminating information determining means 14 determines the information used to discriminate the own apparatus based on the number of counts by the counting means 13. Upon receiving an inquiry request transmitted from another apparatus, a returning means 15 returns a response to the other apparatus as a transmission destination of the inquiry.
