Provided are a device and a method for controlling a display for suppressing deterioration of image qualities, and a program. A backlight luminance calculating section (121) obtains backlight luminance of light to be emitted from a backlight, based on an image signal. A subtracting section (142) obtains a difference between the backlight luminance obtained from the backlight luminance calculating section (121) and backlight luminance obtained from an adding section (141). A multiplying section (143) multiplies the obtained difference with a cyclic coefficient indicating a contribution degree of the difference to the backlight luminance correction and obtains a correction value. The adding section (141) adds the correction value to the backlight luminance and corrects the backlight luminance. A dividing section (124) calculates light transmission factor of a liquid crystal panel, which displays an image by transmitting light emitted from the backlight, based on the image signal and the backlight luminance. This invention can be applied to a liquid crystal display device.
