<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive image forming apparatus of high picture quality and having good usability, in which operating power for opening and closing an outer cover is small and a transfer roller is precisely positioned with respect to an image forming apparatus body. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a secondary transfer unit 230 which turns to make a secondary transfer roller 232 contact or separate from an intermediate transfer belt 41, a side cover 290 which operates the secondary transfer unit 230 to make the roller 232 contact or separated from the belt 41 through opening/closing operation, and a secondary transfer lock arm 202 which turns in conjunction with the opening/closing operation of the cover 230 to position the secondary transfer unit 230 with respect to the image forming apparatus body 201. The arm 202 has an engagement section 202b engaging with a positioning section 230a provided in the secondary transfer unit 230, and a contact portion 202c of the engagement section 202b which comes into contact with the positioning section 230a in a state where the cover 290 is closed is formed in an arcuate shape including the center 202a of turning of the arm 202 in its center. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
