<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a three-dimensional shape measurement method for surely extracting a light-section line in a captured image of the light-section line, and dealing with a robust automatic control of an exposure regardless of the magnitude of the reflectivity on a surface of a to-be-measured object and the brightness of an illumination in a measurement environment. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In three-dimensional shape measurement method by a light-section method, a brightness histogram is created based on image data of a two-dimensional image. A first peak Pe1 corresponding to the light-section line and a second peak Pe2 corresponding to a background are detected in the brightness histogram. A peak-to-peak brightness difference (Bp1-Bp2) between the peaks Pe1, Pe2 is calculated. The exposure is adjusted so as to cause the peak-to-peak brightness difference (Bp1-Bp2) to be the preset minimum peak-to-peak brightness difference Br1 or more and cause the brightness at the first peak Pe1 (the first peak brightness Bp1) on the high brightness side to be the preset maximum peak brightness Br2 or less while the image of the light-section line is captured.
