<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an audio player capable of preventing useless battery consumption, even when a conventional headphone or earphone which is not equipped with special functions or device, is connected. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The audio player is provided with: a frequency characteristic measuring means 14 for periodically superimposing a reference signal on a first earphone signal, and comparing the reference signal with a measured signal distributed form a second earphone signal to measure the frequency characteristics; an earphone attachment/detachment determining means for determining whether a user wears an earphone from the measured frequency characteristics; and a power control means 16 for turning off a part, or all of the power sources, when it is determined that the user is not wearing an earphone.
