<p>An outer joint member for a constant velocity universal joint has no delayed breakage in a root section thereof and is lightweight and low in cost. An outer joint member for a constant velocity universal joint has a mouth section (7) in which an inner joint member (2) is contained, and also has a stem section (10) projecting from the bottom (8) of the mouth section (7). A root section (17) which is a corner between the stem section (10) and the mouth section (7) has a rounded shape. A stress relieving recess (16) is provided in that portion of the rounded root section (17) which is on the stem section side.</p>
