PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing body capable of achieving sufficient effect of shock absorption by using a shock absorbing material of a comparatively thin layer without increasing dead load and cost and withstanding the shock caused by a series of falling rocks and to provide a method for arranging it. SOLUTION: This shock absorbing body 10 has an elastic storing body 12 and the shock absorbing material 14 stored in the storing body 12 to disperse the impact force generated by the falling rocks 22 onto a side part 12a side of the storing body 12. Consequently, amount of the used shock absorbing raw material 14, thickness of the layer of the shock absorbing raw material, and the cost required by the shock absorbing raw material 14 can be reduced, and increase of dead load can be prevented. Since a structure of this shock absorbing body is simple, the cost required by the construction work can be reduced. In addition, this shock absorbing body 10 can be deformed to return into its original shape after rock falling due to restoring force of the storing body 12 so that this shock absorbing body can also cope with the shock caused by frequent falling rocks.
