<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backing plate for use in drilling capable of sufficiently reducing breakage of a drill, reducing roughness on the inner wall of a hole and fully improving positioning accuracy of the hole. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the backing plate for use in drilling having a lubricant layer 3 formed on at least one of surfaces of an aluminum-made base plate 2, the lubricant layer 3 includes at least a first lubricant layer 4 containing polyethylene glycol as a main component, and a second lubricant layer 5 provided between the base plate 2 and the first lubricant layer 4 and containing polyethylene glycol as a main component. The backing plate is such structured that a number average molecular weight of the polyethylene glycol constituting the first lubricant layer 4 is smaller than that of the polyethylene glycol constituting the second lubricant layer 5, and a melt index of the first lubricant layer 4 is larger than that of the second lubricant layer 5.
