<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator having a function for automatically performing quick freezing operation, having a temperature sensor detecting the temperature within a freezing compartment and for preventing abnormalities of food and a refrigerator body by canceling the automatic quick freezing operation when disconnection and short-circuit of the temperature sensor occur. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The refrigerator includes the temperature sensor 12 for detecting the temperature within the freezing compartment 9 and with a control device 11 for controlling a compressor 1. When rise in the temperature within the freezing compartment per unit time exceeds a predetermined value and the temperature within the freezing compartment exceeds predetermined temperature, the quick freezing operation for continuously operating the compressor 1 is performed. When the temperature within the freezing compartment becomes below predetermined temperature and decline in the temperature per unit time exceeds a predetermined value, the quick freezing operation is terminated, so as to prevent consumption of waste electric power and a situation where the freezing compartment 9 cannot be cooled.
