<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a packing material from dropping out and facilitate mounting and fixing of the packing material in a packing material fitting place in a part such as a casing or a cover of an engine, a pump or the like with sealing ability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A fitting structure is provided with a packing material A having an annular body portion 1 and a plurality of notches 3 each having a main protruding portion 21 formed to protrude from the annular body portion 1 and an auxiliary protruding portion 22 formed integrally in the vicinity of the main protruding portion 21, the notches 2 being formed with an appropriate spacing in the longitudinal direction of the main annular body portion 1. The fitting structure is also provided with a casing B having formed therein an annular fitting groove 4 for inserting the annular body portion of the packing material A. A cutout portion 5 into which only the main protruding portion 21 of the notch 2 is inserted is formed in a groove wall portion 42 of the fitting groove 4. An integral forming region of the auxiliary protruding portion 22 and the annular body portion 1 has a width substantially equal to or larger than a width of the fitting groove 4. In the packing material A, a notch 2 formation location is pressed and fixed only by the cutout portion 5 and both groove wall portions 42 in the vicinity of the cutout portion 5.
