<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system enabling to emit light from an EL illuminant in a desired direction. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system 30 (30C, 30D) comprises the EL illuminant 10 as a light source, and an optical member 20 (20A, 20B, 20G) for mainly condensing or deflecting light in the direction of substantially showing the highest brightness, out of light to be emitted from the EL illuminant 10 in predetermined brightness distribution. The optical member may be formed as a light condensing member 20A which condenses light emitted from the EL illuminant 10 in a normal direction, e.g., or as deflecting members 20B, 20G which deflect light from the normal direction into a non-normal direction.
