PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid drop ejecting apparatus and method, which efficiently performs the maintenance operation of an ejection head and downsizes the whole apparatus. SOLUTION: The liquid drop ejecting apparatus is provided with: ejection heads 3 each having a nozzle surface provided with a plurality of nozzles and ejecting drops of functional liquid from each nozzle of the nozzle surface; a wiping unit 14 wiping the nozzle surface of the ejection head 3 with a wiping member 57; and a moving means for moving the ejection head 3 relatively between a reaching area where a liquid drop D ejected from the nozzle reaches an ejection object, and a maintenance area including a wiping area provided with the wiping unit 14.
