PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mathematical expression computing device allowing effective learning on the solution of un unknown constant in an identical equation. SOLUTION: On an identical equation processing screen Gk, when a desired identical equation "(x+a)(bx-2)=x<SP>2</SP>-4" is input by user operation and its variable "x" is specified to operate a "determination key" a list of four solution commands [F1 automatic solution], [F2 numerical value substitution], [F3 four basic operations] and [F4 coefficient comparison] is displayed. When constant value automatic solution processing F1 is selected, for instance, characters other than the specified variable "x" are specified as constants "a" and "b" and automatic solution processing is carried out according to a coefficient comparison method. H4 "a=2" "b=1" is displayed as a result. The variable "x" and the unknown constant "a" and "b" are thereby distinguished clearly and recognized to carry out solution operation.
