<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic mail gateway device that deletes unnecessary electronic mail in a mail server device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A main control unit 1 of an S/MIME gateway device 20 when failing to receive the electronic mail from the mail server device 40 to the S/MIME gateway device 20 delivers an error report message indicating the failure to a client personal computer 30. The main control unit 1 when receiving a deletion request signal requesting the deletion of the electronic mail whose reception ends in failure from the client personal computer 30 requests the mail server device 40 to delete the electronic mail.
