In a hand dryer (100), a main box body (1) having a hand insertion part (3) allowing insertion/deinsertion of the hands and a water receiving part for recovery of waterdrops blown away from the hands is provided with a drain container (9) for storage of the water recovered by the water receiving part. The drain container (9) is detachably fitted to the main box body (1) and is provided with a first key mechanism (15) for regulating the detachment of the drain container (9). Further, the main box body is provided with an operating unit for switching the mode of operation of the dryer, and the operating unit is covered by an openable operating unit lid member (18) and is provided with a third key mechanism (19) for regulating the opening/closing of the operating unit lid member (18).
