<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extract of genus Vaccinium which reduces adherence of Escherichia coli strains to cell walls of urinary tract, and to develop a method for producing the extract. <P>SOLUTION: Provided is the extract derived from plants of the genus Vaccinium comprising at least 15% by weight of proanthocyanidins expressed as the procyanidin C1 equivalent relative to the dry weight of the extract, wherein the plant of the genus Vaccinium is Vaccinium macrocarpon or American cranberry. Developed is the method for preparing the extract comprising placing the Vaccinium macrocarpon or American cranberry in an aqueous solution, carrying out solid-liquid separation, adding an organic solvent and then dehydrating the product obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
