<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet conveying device capable of preventing one sheet from reaching a pair of conveying rollers in advance even when the once-discharged sheet is reversely conveyed to a conveying passage, and an image recorder with the sheet conveying device being mounted thereon. <P>SOLUTION: A recording paper sheet is discharged into a paper discharge tray 21 from conveying passages 23, 27 by the pair of conveying rollers 59 and a pair of paper discharge rollers 64. A conveying roller 60 of the pair of conveying rollers 59 and a paper discharge roller 62 of the pair of paper discharge rollers 64 are synchronously rotated in the second directions 113, 114. During this time, a control unit 100 determines whether or not the recording paper sheet is reversely conveyed to the conveying passage 27 from the paper discharge tray 21 by the pair of paper discharge rollers 64, and possibly reaches the pair of conveying rollers 59.
