PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL device capable of preventing an organic EL element from destruction due to surge voltage generated in a circuit. SOLUTION: The device is provided with an organic EL element 1 with a first electrode layer 20, an organic layer, and a second electrode layer 40 laminated, a power source 200 equipped with a first output terminal 201, and a second output terminal 202 electrically connected with the second electrode layer 40, and a switching circuit 100 equipped with a first channel 110 and a second channel 120 with an impedance lower than that of the first channel 110 and electrically connecting the first output terminal 201 of the power source 200 with the first electrode layer 20 through either the first channel 110 or the second channel 120.
