PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional wooden packing member requires fitting plate materials together to assemble a wood frame, which takes much time and effort such as nailing or unnailing for packing or unpacking, and the wooden packing member cannot substantially be recycled, leading to waste of wooden resources. SOLUTION: A packing member made of corrugated fiberboard is used such that peripheral face protective members are respectively placed over a pair of opposite peripheral faces of a rectangular parallelepiped-shaped large heavy weight article and a band is put around it, thus packing the heavy weight article. Each of the peripheral face protective members has a structure in which support members are disposed on both sides of a peripheral face plate, each support member being folded and bent into an L-shape in order to be placed over the corner part between the adjacent peripheral faces of the large heavy weight article. A valley portion of the support member, which abuts on the corner, is formed from a butting portion. Alternatively, the support member is provided with a separate spacer in which a valley portion to be brought into contact with the corner is formed from a butting portion.
