<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp in which a reaction between sodium and mercury contained in a glass tube can be controlled and a mercury consumption by sodium can be controlled to extend a life of a fluorescent lamp and a reaction between sodium and phosphor contained in the glass tube can be controlled and a decrease of a light emitting volume of phosphor due to deterioration of the phosphor can be controlled and a reduction of transmissivity of the phosphor due to attachment of a dark-brown color reaction product on the glass tube can be controlled to prevent deterioration of luminance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the fluorescent lamp composed of a glass tube in which mercury and diluted gas are enclosed, a phosphor layer provided on an inner wall of the glass tube, and a pair of electrodes, the phosphor layer contains a phosphor material and acid.
