<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reinforcing fiber excellent in adhesion with rubber or resin, and to provide a method for easily producing the reinforcing fiber. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Particles having a 7-500 μm average particle diameter are partially buried in the fiber surface and depressions are present on the fiber surface. Further, the average length in the fiber axis direction of depressions is 0.1-20 μm, the average length in the fiber circumferential direction is from 0.1 μm to 1/2 times the fiber diameter as an average, the mean space between each of depressions is preferably 0.1-50 μm, and preferably, the diameter of the fiber is 5-400 μm and the particles are glass. Its manufacturing method is a method of producing the reinforcing fiber that involves blasting the fiber surface with particles, the particles having a polygonal shape and having an average particle diameter of 7-500 μm and the average new Moh's hardness being 4-12, and performing blasting treatment in a dry state of the particles at a 0.01-10 MPa air pressure.
