<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel surely and stably holdable by clamping a side plate opposite to a handle with the thumb and the forefinger, and surely and stably holdable even in a state of grasping with the whole palm. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fishing reel is provided with a spool 20 rotatably supported between a pair of side plates 15a, 15b and capable of winding a fishing line by the rotation of a handle 26. The fishing reel has a fingerhold member 52 placed along the outer circumference of the side plate opposite to the handle, including an upper face part 48 directing upward in a manner separating from a rod attaching part 18 and holding the thumb of the gripping hand and a side face part 50 directing outward in a manner axially separating from the spool 20 and holding the forefinger of the gripping hand. A curved part curving outward and upward from the inside to the outer edge part 49 is formed on at least one of the upper face part 48 and the side face part 50, and is holdable between the ball of the thumb and the side part of the palm opposite to the thumb ball or the forefinger.
