摘要 <p>An oxidation catalyst is provided with which PMs contained in the exhaust gas discharged from a diesel engine can be burned at low temperatures and which is less deteriorated by the heat generation caused by PM combustion (that is, has high heat resistance). A composite oxide for the catalyst for exhaust gas purification is provided which is constituted of Ce, Bi, R, R', and oxygen and which, when the molar ratio among Ce, Bi, R, and R' is expressed by Ce:Bi:R:R'=(1-x-y-z):x:y:z, then the following relationships are satisfied: 0<x=0.4, 0<y<1.0, and 0<z=0.5. This composite oxide does not change in BET value even when treated at a high temperature. The composite oxide has a high acceptable limit of poisoning by sulfur and hence is less deteriorated by poisoning. The catalyst for exhaust gas purification is suitable for use as a catalyst for PM combustion.</p>
