<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article measuring method and its device for detecting the height of an article by being added to the length L and width W of the article with the small number of sensors. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The article measuring device includes a first light sensor 22 for horizontally arranging an optical axis in a direction orthogonal to a moving direction of the article 13, a second light sensor 23 for horizontally arranging an optical axis by being inclined at a first prescribed angle α in a direction orthogonal to the moving direction, and a third light sensor 24 for arranging an optical axis by being inclined at a second prescribed angle β oblique from a vertical direction along the moving direction. The measuring device includes a detection device 25 for obtaining the article length L, width W and height H of the measured movement amounts with a calculation equation by measuring a movement amount while the optical axis 22a of the first light sensor is shaded by the moving article 13, a movement amount while the optical axis 23a of the second light sensor is shaded by the moving article 13, and a movement amount while the optical axis 24a of the third light sensor is shaded by the moving article 13.
