PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a foamed metal sintered compact which can efficiently produce a foamed metal sintered compact having a large surface area, having excellent mechanical strength and also having electric conductivity at high efficiency without depending on the shape and size of the foamed metal sintered compact to be formed, and to provide a foamed metal sintered compact produced by the production method, having a large surface area and having excellent mechanical strength. SOLUTION: The method for producing a foamed metal sintered compact comprises: a raw material preparation step [A] where a prepolymer 2 whose terminal is terminated with an isocyanate group and slurry 3 obtained by suspending metal powder into a water base dispersion liquid are prepared; an intermediate body production step [B] where the prepolymer 2 and the slurry 3 are mixed, so as to be foamed and cross-linked, thus an intermediate body 4 of a foamed metal sintered compact is obtained; a degreasing step [C] where the intermediate body 4 is degreased, so as to obtain a degreased body 5; and a sintering step [D] where the degreased body 5 is sintered, so as to obtain a foamed metal sintered compact 1.
