<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catcher capable of adjusting the intensity of the gripping force of grip arms and setting the grip arms in a neutral state with play in which no pivoting force is applied. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This catcher includes: a rotating drive means; a plurality of grip arms, a rotating member rotatingly driven by the rotating drive means; a plurality of swinging members that swing to pivot the grip arms to take a widely opened form and allowing them to pivot for taking a narrowed form from the widely opened form; a movement change mechanism for changing the rotating movement of the rotating member to the swinging movement of the swinging members; a stopper member for restricting the pivot of the grip arms; and spring members connected to the respective grip arms and the respective swinging members. When the grip arms are in the narrowed state, the swinging members can swing while the spring members are under tensioned state so that the grip force of the grip arms is increased.
