The sensor has a sensor element (5) arranged on a side of a solid electrolyte layer (1), and including a gas sensitive layer (7) on the solid electrolyte layer on measuring electrodes (9) i.e. interdigital electrodes. A substrate (13) exhibits a recess (15) at an internal section (11) and within an external section (17) of the substrate. Pumping electrodes (3) are produced in an area of the recess, and are provided on both sides of a pumping element. A gas permeable cover (19) for the recess and a measuring cavity (21) is fastened to the external section.
