<p>An apparatus for affecting line pull force between a distressed vessel and a powered escort vessel, while simultaneously affecting a heeling angle of the escort includes an escort vessel having a winch and a line secured between a distressed vessel and the winch of the escort vessel. A device allows for automatically rotating the winch of the escort vessel in a direction of the line pull force.</p>
