A liquid crystal display device inverts the polarity of a data signal once in the first time out of n times (n is an integer of 2 or more) of horizontal blanking periods. The liquid crystal display device inverts the polarity of the data signal twice in the remaining n-1 times of horizontal blanking periods, respectively. Further, the liquid crystal display device short-circuits a plurality of data lines when inverting the polarity of the data signal and selects a scan line in the write period during which the data signal is applied to a picture element forming part. Furthermore, the liquid crystal display device selects the scan line in synchronization with the timing at which the data lines are short-circuited before the scan line once selected is reselected in the write period.
