<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of improving utilization efficiency of emitted light and increasing luminous energy thereof; and to provide a projector capable of projecting a high-luminance projection image by including the light source device. <P>SOLUTION: The light source device in this projector includes: a focusing optical system 165 designed to set an emission surface 168 at a position just proximal to a first incident surface, and make the light emitted from the emission surface 168 effective; and a specific wavelength range light generator 151 arranged at a position separated at a predetermined distance from the first incident surface of the focusing optical system 165, and having a light source 161 of which the emission area is set in proportion to the distance to the emission surface 168. In the specific wavelength range light generator 151, assuming that a diffusion angle of a pencil of light rays emitted from the emission surface 168 with respect to an optical axis and the distance from the emission surface 168 to an actual emission surface are θ and (h), respectively, the light source 161 includes an emission area expanded by h×tanθ in all the directions relative to the emission area of the emission surface 168. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
