PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of apparently tracking printing as to "who printed what, by which printer, and when", in a printed document by the printer. SOLUTION: Printing data are input from an input I/F1, and information capable of specifying a user from the input data is separated by a separating section 2. Time of day is kept by a built-in clock 3, and information unique to the device is provided by a device unique information providing section 4. Moreover, the information of the separating section 2, the built-in clock 3, and the device unique information providing section 4 are collected up by an additional information synthesis section 5, and this additional information is encoded by a two-dimensional code section 6 or a pattern code section 7. Furthermore, a log is stored by a log storing section 8, and this stored log is displayed by a display section 9.
