<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decoding apparatus equipped with a plurality of code word detectors, to shorten the average decoding time while compressing configuration information for each of the code word detectors. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Each of the plurality of code word detectors 321 stores codewords to be detected into a code word register 301. An LSB side 4-bit UC is a characteristic symbol string for each code word detector 321. The plurality of code word detectors 321 are divided into groups, and MSB (Most Significant Bit) side GP and 2-bit GC are a common value in each group. The GP is a continuous "0" or "1". A logical product operating part 303 generates a logical product between stream data from a code buffer 281 and a value of a mask register 302, and a matching detector 304 detects matching between the stream data and a value of the code word register 301.
