<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet transport device whose utilization is improved, by preventing jamming of a detected paper sheet from occurring, when jamming is detected. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A paper money processing machine 1 stops a paper money feed path 10 from upstream, in the order of feeding paths 10a, 10b, and 10c, when a bad paper money is detected. The feed paths 10a, 10b, and 10c are stopped, with the timing when the paper money does not stop over two feed paths: one being a stoppage feed path and the other being a feed path which is located next to the stopping feed path. This timing is determined, on the basis of a position of the paper sheet detected on the stopping feeding path and a braking distance of the paper money on this feed path.
