PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document feeder capable of shortening time for carrying a document, and properly reading an image of the document. SOLUTION: A paper feeding roller carries a first document to a timing sensor at the set document carrying speed (S11). The first document is carried by a carrying roller after the timing sensor (S13). If a control portion determines that time when the paper feeding roller carries the document is slower than the predetermined time (YES in S15), delay amount when the paper feeding roller carries the document is calculated (S16), and speed at which the paper feeding roller carries the document is changed (S17). The paper feeding roller carries a second document to the timing sensor at document carrying speed which is made to be fast (S18).
