<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a fixing device capable of effectively preventing wrinkles and a curl on recording paper while maintaining good fixability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes the fixing device 6 configured to nip and convey the recording paper 9 by means of a heat roller 61 and a pressure roller 62 and fix a toner image transferred to the recording paper, wherein the surface temperature of the heat roller is detected and controlled so that the surface temperature can be kept at a predetermined set fixation temperature. The image forming apparatus includes a recording paper temperature sensor 64 that detects the surface temperature of the recording paper just after discharged from the fixing device. The set fixation temperature includes a reference temperature and a sub-reference temperature lower than the reference temperature. The image forming apparatus also includes a control unit 71 that performs control to switch the set fixation temperature from the reference temperature to the sub-reference temperature when the surface temperature of the recording paper detected by the recording paper temperature sensor is higher than the predetermined temperature.
