PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leveling tool of hardness measuring surface, facilitating the handling, capable of freely adjusting the angle in all directions, and a leveling method of hardness measuring surface, capable of easily leveling the true horizontal surface without consuming much time and labor. SOLUTION: The leveling tool comprises: a laterally long cylindrical fixed shaft 1; a sample base 2 integrally fixed on its upper part; a pair of right and left fixing plates 3, equipped with a recessed circular arc surface 3a surface-contacting to the cylindrical surface of the fixed shaft inward of the shaft 1 and a projecting circular arc surface 3b at the bottom surface in the vertical direction with respect to the bottom; and a fixing base 4, equipped with a fixed shaft holding means 5 which presses these fixing plates 3 toward the fixed shaft 1. The leveling is performed by lowering the pressing surface and pressing the surface of a specimen piece W, while mounting this tool on the support surface of a pressing stamp and keeping the fixed shaft holding means 5 in a semi-fixed state.
